Welcome to Day 15 of #40DaysOfSelfCare. Let’s explore the self-care tip REJUVENATE.
A constant pace of working hard is unsustainable. It decreases energy, lowers immunity, contributes to heart disease, and drains creativity. Pretty much a total groove buster.
Taking a frequent pause, in the form of a rejuvenating break during the throes of resistance, conflict or a life change, is an amazing guiding principle for realizing dreams, goals, and happiness with clarity and ease.
In contemplating a recent career decision, I observed myself becoming a bit tenacious in how I thought something ‘should’ turn out. My body felt tight and my mind felt constricted. Signs I needed to get to the water ASAP. Thankfully, the Pacific Ocean is at my back door, so I headed to the harbor for a sunset sail.
Upon feeling the boat surrender to the movements of the water and wind, I was reminded of the power of a soft surrender. Gazing up at the sails, it struck me how effortlessly the boat yielded to the wind. I realized I needed to yield my career situation to the winds of change and the tides of providence.
In sailing, to yield is to surrender to conditions you can’t control, like wind and water currents. One tacks/changes course in order to be in the best position, so that the natural force of the wind moves the boat along the desired course.
When the boat and sails are aligned just right with the wind, movement is effortless. Similarly, by being aligned with the right forces during change, one moves forward to their intended destination with ease. To yield is to trust a situation to the powers of the heart’s intuition, divine timing and perpetual providence.
That night I yielded my situation to providence. Within a few days, a series of events happened that perfectly aligned me with the very best situations regarding my career and my life’s dreams as a lifestyle coach and writer.
Like sailing, life is not a linear course. Changes in towns, careers, and relationships invite us to tack – to change direction. Any life change is easier when we yield to the heart and trust the power of a soft surrender.

Today’s Self-Care Adventure: Every time you see a yield sign, surrender worry or control over a situation. Not driving today or your normal route is devoid of yield signs? Then grab some paper and crayons and make a yield sign. On the back of sign, write down the thoughts, issues, and relationships you choose to yield to your higher power.
