Welcome to day 36 of our #40DaysOfSelfCareAdventure! Today’s tip is CREATE. Let’s explore the space of a cozatorium.
Over the years, I’ve been blessed with amazing spaces in which to write, do yoga, and create art. My ex, a Nashville songwriter, musician, record producer, and painter dubbed such spaces, a cozatorium.
A cozatorium is a cozy space that supports the dreams and practical needs of an artist.
In Nashville, my yoga/writing cozatorium had a balcony that overlooked a grove of magnolia and hackberry trees. It felt like a tree house and I always felt tucked away into a magical space when I was in the room. It was in this space I crossed the border between a corporate banking life and a vocation as an artist/entrepreneur.
My creative spaces in my Adirondack cabin were a small room in our main cabin that overlooked the Great Sacandaga Lake, and a big rock ledge along the lakeshore that was shaded by pines and willows. In these spaces, spiders, crows, owls, merganser ducks, frogs, bluegills, trout, and the occasional loon graced me with beauty and magic. In this cozatorium, I became more confident as a yoga teacher and Ayurveda lifestyle coach, and secure in blazing my own trail as an entrepreneur.
My current space in Santa Barbara has a northern wall adorned with some fabulous Jon Ortner art, and a southern wall overlooking a succulent garden and the Pacific Ocean. This cozatorium is the birthplace of my writing career as a professional writer for lululemon, houses the desk where I’ve fallen madly in love with writing posts for our #40DaysOfSelfCare, and the place I know I will sign my first publishing deal.
Creating my various cozatoriums has been a sacred act of throwing down my flag and claiming my space in this world as a valid, vital, and gifted artist. And it’s been a way of consecrating my path to creative dreams and goals.
My cozatoriums have offered me shelter when I felt weary, granted me inspiration when I felt dull, and recently gifted me with joy when toasting bubbles with friends celebrating my lululemon blog article success.
Declaring a place in your home as a sacred space to manifest your creative dreams is a key element of self-care. A cozatorium where you can write, paint, and manifest creative dreams makes one feel nourished and inspired.
Today’s Self-Care Adventure: Create a cozatorium for yourself. It can be a room or a small nook. Fill it with colors, cherished treasures, and practical art supplies that inspire dreamscapes and stoke your creative spark.
