Tip #23 of our #40DaysOfSelfCare adventure is NOURISH. Loving friendships nourish the heart and are a wonderful way to practice self-care.
The above photo was taken at a Santa Barbara community event hosted by lululemon. I have the honor of being an Ayurveda and yoga ambassador with lululemon. I also write self-care articles for their blog. I love this relationship because I get many opportunities to rock my unique dreams and goals, while being part of a community of creativity, inspiration, innovation, and shared values.
The relationships with lululemon, my family, dear friends, and my awesome dog Machi provide me with a nourishing place of support and cultivate a space of creative and spiritual transformation. This greatly increases my health and happiness factor.
Studies show that oxytocin, the “love hormone” is released when we touch someone we care about, whether it’s a spouse, partner, child, friend, or a pet. Levels of oxytocin also increase when we hang out and have fun with friends. So the more loving our connections, the more we amass this fabulous chemical, which is known to lower blood pressure, decrease stress and even boost immunity.
Nourish your health and happiness by surrounding yourself with people who support, respect, cherish, and inspire you.
Birds of a feather flock together. Choose those who encourage you to open your wings and will wildly chirp when you soar.
Today’s Self-Care Adventure: Connect with a dear friend today. Call, email, or meet up for some tea, beer, or bubbly. Reflect on the cherished qualities of your friendships and write about it in your gratitude journal.
