Serve Up Cool Libations Ayurveda Style This Summer
Happy summer y’all! Tis the season of sunshine, beach trips, and long afternoons outdoors. While you are enjoying soaking up the sun (with sunscreen, of course!), be sure to hydrate. Avoid looking like a sun-dried raisin and stoke a sweet summer glow with the help of Ayurveda. Your skin needs to soak up moisture and there is no better and tastier way to do so than drinking these refreshing AyurAde™ tonics!
I am enjoying my third summer in Santa Barbara. Thanks to the cool Pacific breezes, the weather doesn’t get too hot and sticky. When I lived in Nashville, I relied on Ayurvedic drinks to keep my pitta dosha cool in the body and mind. Even in the softer Santa Barbara summer, I count on these AyurAde™ tonics to maintain cool body temperatures, healthy skin, and a chilled-back attitude in hotter weather.
When the weather heats up and causes frustrations, head to the kitchen and concoct these tasty libations.
11 medium cut cucumber slices
Sprig of fresh mint leaves
Pinch pink Himalayan rock salt
In a 64 oz glass pitcher or jar, add the above to spring or filtered water. Allow about an hour for everything to mingle. Pour, sip, and be cool. (“Kuru” means “cool” in Japanese). You can also add a fresh mint leaf to each glass as garnish or to be cool to the max.
One lime, freshly squeezed juice
2 Tbsp. Organic Aloe Vera Juice
1 tsp. organic raw sugar
In a 64 oz glass pitcher or jar, add the above to spring or filtered water. Allow about a half hour for everything to mingle. Pour, sip, and experience how bitter makes summer better. Beat the heat with this cool treat. The bitter taste of aloe vera juice has a cooling effect on the body and mind. Rose water is sweet and also cooling. This is the dynamic duo of coolness.
These summer drinks are easy to make, effective on staying cool, and enjoyable to drink! You’ll experience many happy hours in the sun with these tasty Ayurvedic tonics. Cheers!
