As a yoga teacher and Ayurvedic practitioner, I resonated with Brian’s adventures into the life transforming practices of yoga and Ayurveda. His journey is inspired by courage, humor, friends, teachers, and road trips, whether they are cross-country or on one’s yoga mat. I often share quotes from the book in my yoga classes, particularly this one: “You can’t know or plan for where you’ll find transcendence; you can only follow the whispers as they call out to you.”
“Misadventures of a Garden State Yogi” has all the elements for a practical and enjoyable book. From an Ayurvedic perspective, it contains tips relating to the five elements. With earth, the “8 Keys to Happiness” offer ways to stay physically and mentally grounded. Brian’s reminders to go with the flow during life changes, relate to water. His gorgeous humor and honesty reflect the light and fire in his soul. Finally, the air and space elements are represented in the way Brian reminds the reader to enjoy the movement on the road trip of life, and to often pause at the rest-stop of the heart. For it is in the heart space, where this book touched my life and reminded me that the heart is the space for all the answers, and all the joy we need on this journey of life.
